How to fix Windows 10 “Diagnostics and usage data option disabled”

I. Problem

Diagnostics and usage data option disabled

Can't select "Optional diagnostic data" on child device

II. How to fix

  1. Open Register: 
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection

Right-click to create or modify: DWORD “AllowTelemetry”

Change the hexadecimal number to “3” (“Full”)

gpupdate /force

AllowTelemetry DWORD Possible Options

0 = Security (Enterprise and Education editions only)

1 = Basic

2 = Enhanced

3 = Full (Recommended)

2. Check Windows services

  • Connected User Experiences and Telemetry: Start, Automatic
  • Windows Insider service: Start, Automatics
